Todd Save The Queen

Here are some highlights and shenanigans from the

Todd Save The Queen 2004 British Fan Bash!

If the party was for Carly Simon fans, I would have been singing "Anticipation".......
But then again, if it WAS for Carly Simon, I wouldn't be hosting it!
Some of the cast members of "Todd Save The Queen." At Views Farm, Great Milton, Oxon, UK.
Veronica & Michael, Theresa, Dr. Chrissy, Kay, EJ, Mo, Neil, Sir Fee,
and in front Jojo and Anthony, hiding behind Todd.
Below, Steve and Tim join in for a photo.
From Neil and Chrissy: All, A big thanks to all of you for being 'real' enough to come out from under the covers and share in our little ‘enthusiasm’! For me, the guiding thread through Todd's work as I experience it is an appeal for unity and compassion (perhaps Liars tests that theory some - but what the hell, its a good groove!), so I would have really regretted not taking the extra step and bringing Chrissy along for her 'initiation'. Thank you, EJ and Steve for being tolerant of a pair of semi-official latecomers - even if they did come bearing beverages! There was so much to talk about and explore that cramming it all neatly in to a few hours was a real test. I’m gutted that I didn’t get to hear Pro Mo on the guitar cos we had to leave early. (Anthony - good luck with the cycle trip and the promotion project). …even the great British weather was kind on the day : ) The following evening in Bristol, Todd and the band hit all of our big red happy buttons at once! He fell back from the mike after one song (don't remember which - I was spaced) grumbling something about 'Bristols'. Which made Chrissy blush as she was wearing a particularly tight white tee shirt (which reads "I love shoes!") at the time just five bodies from centre stage! …oooerrrr missus! EJ - thanks a million for posting that ‘Parallel Lines’ video which gets to me every time! Love is indeed the answer my friends,
Neil & Chrissy x x x
From Kay: Well EJ, it's been nearly two weeks since the bash and over a week since the RFH and I am still on my cloud.  It was wonderful to meet all the other Todd fans.  I just wish I could have stayed til the end, but needed to get my kids home.  It was a lovely location for a Todd party and so good of you to organise everything.  The best bit for me was to hear Todd and Utopia blaring out of a stereo for a solid 4 hours (the duration of my stay) without a single complaint, except apparently Audrey and Eleanor compared notes on how sick they were of hearing the stuff in their Mom's car!! The cakes were perfect, although I didn't actually get to taste any.  Oh, and Louisa and Eleanor would like your Chocolate chip cookie recipe!!   I didn't bring my camera so am looking forward to seeing everyone else's snaps when you get this animation finished.  If you do anything next year I would love to come over again.  The Todd fans I met at EJ's bash all seemed really nice and I do think it's great to meet people who understand. We are all very different people who have appreciation of Todd's Music in common..
Thanks again and love to Steve and Audrey.
Kay and the kids
"Is there a Doctor in the house?"
"Yes!"
And we (especially the young lady in the center) were glad to have Dr. Chrissy there with us,
to take care of boo boos, bumps and bruises.
From Sir Fee of Leicester: A really BIG thanks to Eeeeej & Steve for being the perfect hosts. I haven't been in a room with more than 1 Todd fan in for 10 years so that was a nice experience. I only took 1 pic with my toy camera & its one of those shots that have half my finger on! Oh no, I'm dreading seeing the video camera footage. Eeeeej had 2 cakes baked. One with the crest on , the other with the Todd with puppies. They were too good to eat! Thanks again Eeeeej for letting us invade your holiday home!
TheSurfTalks
Our old pal Jovan wandered into a crazy scene
of partying Todd fans, wondering "What's all this, then?"
Not only did Jo have a great time, since he's a bachelor, the leftover crest cake and lasagna
that we sent him home with was his "balanced diet for a few nights! Carbs? What carbs?
From Jojo: We had a great time, first with EJ and her wonderful family and then with, er, yes thats the one, TR! The whole thing is still putting 2 inchs of air under my feet! What a great day, such lovely people, shame about the weather (cold) but we pretended it was summer anyway. Won't be able to post any pics until next week but then you will all have the chance to see a bunch of british toddfreaks in their natural habitat. Many many thanks to Eeeeej and her great hubby Steve (such a nice guy) for all their effort and thanks to everyone who came!

TODD SAVE THE QUEEN!
For us, the story of this party begins back in July 1992 when Todd broke a previous ten year's silence by appearing with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band for two dates in Liverpool and London. We'd subscribed to, and been actively involved with the Utopia Times for years, and while we always envied the regular get togethers held over there in America, had never really made much effort to connect with other Nexus members over here in the UK. But then, in 1992, as if driven by some pheremonal calling, a couple of dozen Todd fans independantly converged upon the stage door at the Liverpool Empire one sunny July afternoon, wrestled control of the area free from the handful of Ringo/Beatles people hanging around, and began what effectively was the first real, albeit impromtu, Todd fest to take place here that involved the man himself making an appearance. Instant friendships were forged that afternoon as stories and warmth were shared, and by the time the tour bus arrived, our numbers had grown to around fifty, with the occasional whisper of "Ringo Who?". It was there and then that we decided to become more involved with other fans, and do our bit to build a community on this side of the pond. That community considerably swelled in numbers two years later when the No World Order Tour rolled into town. A lot of familiar faces in the crowd soon reconnected, and in the atmosphere of interactivity Todd had created, unfamiliar faces were not left out of the loop. One of the many people we met in '94, was Theresa. We had taken a photo of her with Todd at an album signing in London, promising to send her a copy. Unfortunately, by the time we got home we'd managed to lose her address and with it, all contact. We've always held onto the photograph, deciding to take it with us to any future TR shows in the slim chance that we may again run into her. Little did we know when that was decided, we'd have yet another ten year wait on our hands! The 2004 tour finally arrives! After months of excrutiation waiting for the only week of this year that mattered to any of us, the morning of the Todd Save The Queen Bash is upon us. Our bags are packed, hotels booked, travel arrangements made and concert tickets gripped in sweaty, expectant palms while we await the taxi that begins our latest Todd odyssey. Suddenly! "Theresa's picture!!!!" A few frenzied moments ensue as two demented blurs whiz back and forth around the house in search of the pic. As the taxi arrives, the photo reveals itself and calm returns to our world. "After that we're bound not to see her" we tell ourselves as the taxi pulls out of our lane. When you live in a country that has Todd shows once a decade, you find that you rely heavilly on irony and cynicism to get you through. After a broken and extended journey thanks to the infamous ineptitude of Britain's Rail Companies who decided to cancel our train without any notice, we eventually arrived in Oxford a few hours later than planned. EJ's husband Steve came to the Travelodge we were staying at to pick us up - such a nice guy - and as happens in these Todd induced situations, by the time we made it back to their cottage we were laughing and joking like old friends. As we entered EJ was holding court in the kitchen. Handing out drinks and keeping a watchful eye on her lasagne in the oven. A few people had already arrived, but we didn't recognise anyone from previous TR related encounters, we got a drink and moved out onto the veranda overlooking a lovely valley with the sun preparing to set on the horizon. Soon, a new guest arrived and was escorted out to the rest of group. Unbelievable! We were away for the full week, travelling to every show on the UK tour, and the very first recognisable face was... you guessed it... Theresa! And we'd left the photo back at the hotel!   We also spent some time with Anthony, from New Zealand, who was planning to go just to the Birmingham show, but who we helped to convince going to the opening show in Bristol as well - not that hard a task! Mo was another guy we had fun talking to, and we've already been in contact with each other since returning home. We have other interests that we share with people, but nothing else immediately bonds you to another human being at first meeting quite the same as finding out that you have a mutual friend called Todd!   As night drew over the valley we all moved inside and continued to laugh and talk our way through the evening. All too soon it was time to say goodnight and head off back to the hotel, and onto the UK tour. I can't think of anything we could have done that would have better suited that final evening before the first show than spending it with EJ and co. Thanks to all of you who were there for helping to turn a little corner of Oxford into a province of Utopia for an evening, and especially EJ and Steve for being such kind and gracious hosts.    Love to all Michael & Veronica Brown
Anthony Nelson (who is a pro biker and was traveling across Europe by bicycle)
and Neil seem to be pretty darn comfortable for two guys who are sitting on stones!
Many of you are familiar with Anthony's TRFanz New Zealand/Austraila website.
Views Farm's View.
Audrey and Eleanor (Kay's daughter) escape the party of crazy UK Todd fans to enjoy some quiet time. Eleanor also experienced her first taste of the American soda Dr. Pepper! "It's nice!"
Steve and I really had a wonderful time meeting everyone!
Some came by train...Michael & Veronica were doing the entire UK TR 2004 Liars tour circuit for their holiday on the rails and stayed in the "fashionable" hotel up the road. Some came to camp around.....Jojo and Tim came by car and were camping down the road. One came by bike....Anthony Nelson wheeled in from New Zealand via Europe. His eventual destination was Athens and the Olympics. And everyone came to enjoy an afternoon in the country...thanks to Mo, Jo, Theresa, Sir Fee, Neil, Chrissy, Kay and the whole crew for making it a memorable day. Maybe next time we can have somebody show up by helicopter or canal boat! Sir Fee (The Surf Talks) blew my mind and showed up unexpectedly! Turns out that he and JoJo were plotting this for awhile..at the party I gave him the puppies on the TR Cake to eat, and sent him home with the top of TR's head for the kiddies to dig in to. Who knows, if we do it again, we may actually remember to fire up the amplifier, so that Mo won't bring his guitar in vain again!
EJ
Thanks to all of you for making this a wonderful experience...
Video by Audrey, just below!

Here is a short video by Mo, of Todd
backstage with his fans just before
showtime at the Royal Festival Hall
in London on July 15, 2004.
My daughter Audrey, shot this music
video of our TR UK Fan Party 2004.
At the time, I didn't really notice her
doing it. Now, I'm glad she did!
